If you are in the market for a boat, but can’t seem to figure out if new or pre-owned is for you, here are some tips on when it makes sense to go pre-owned:
Budget
It does not really matter the price range you are looking in, buying pre-owned is going to have a lower price tag on this year’s models. You may be able to get a similar boat to a brand new Nautique in stock for a lot less – only because it is pre-owned! You are benefitting by saving money on the front end, so you can then use the extra cash to accessorize your new boat to your liking.
Depreciation
The same as automobiles, boats will depreciate. The good news is if you buy pre-owned, the major depreciation period is over! The first couple years of a model’s life is when it depreciates the most, it can be somewhere around 30%! If depreciation is a major concern for you, buying pre-owned like used Nautique boats may be a great fit.
Options
Usually inventory for a pre-owned boat is high, so you will have plenty of options to choose from. You decide exactly what you are looking for in terms of model year, brand, features, accessories, running time, etc. As an added bonus, you may be able to find additional features already built-in to the price vs. having to add them into the sticker price of something new.
Warranty
We know that warranty if always a concern, especially when buying pre-owned. Often, boat warranties have a longer life than they used to. Additionally, boats often have transferrable warranties that can be passed from owner to owner.
